My Lady Bug Subscription Box | Review

Today I’m here to tell you all about a brand new subscription box for women! If you’ve read my September favourites you’ll have seen me mention this already, but I thought it warranted it’s own post as it is such a unique product! I also thought this was the perfect time to post about this as the tampon tax is so topical at the moment, so I’ll talk a little bit about that in a minute.

MyLadyBug is (as far as I know) Ireland’s first ever period subscription box! If you have never heard of a period subscription box before (don’t worry, I hadn’t either), this is a monthly box that delivers tampons and/or pads, and a few little bits to make you more comfortable during your time of the month. Is that not the best idea you’ve ever heard?

MyLadyBug’s mission is to take the stigma out of having your period and to show girls that it’s not something to be ashamed of and that it’s okay to talk about it. In their own words “At MyLadyBug.ie, we don’t use euphemisms for periods, we don’t whisper about ‘your aunt flo visiting’ or ask if you ‘have the painters in.’”. I REALLY love this. Women should not have to hide their period. It is completely natural and you’re going to have it for the majority of your life, so you might aswell get comfortable with it. This goes for men too – almost every women you ever meet will have her period at some stage. It is not disgusting, or something to laugh at, it is completely normal. To put it simply; you wouldn’t exist if your mother never had her period.

Having realized that, how ridiculous is it that British women are taxed 5% on tampons because they are considered a “luxury”? This means that British women are being taxed PURELY because they are women. This is infuriating considering that men’s razors for shaving are considered an “essential” so they are not taxed. I’m not going to go into a huge feminism rant (don’t get me started), but this is just unacceptable. Luckily, us Irish ladies aren’t being taxed on tampons as of the 2016 Budget, but who knows if that will change in the future.

OK. Back to My Lady Bug. Ordering the box is a simple process. You get to customise your box to choose exactly what you want. Don’t like tampons? Just choose “Pads only”. Prefer natural cotton products? Take your pick from all the new Veeda products they have just begun to stock (exciting!). They carry load of different brands, such as Always, Tampax, Lil-Lets and Veeda, so there’s something for everyone. Here’s some screenshots to show you how the process works:

When you receive the box, it comes in a slim, unlabeled package designed to fit through most post boxes and to stay discreet; so if you don’t want anyone to know about your box then it will stay a secret. When you first open the box, this is what you’ll see:

The box contains:

  • Your Customised Order of Tampons and/or Pads;
  • 2 Chocolate Bars (Minstrels and a Galaxy Duet bar);
  • 4 Pukka Tea Bags – 2x Three Mint, 2x Love;
  • A Silk Pouch – perfect for bringing your tampons/pads on the go;
  • A MyLadyBug Sticker;
  • A Sample of Cleanmarine Krill Oil Supplements for Women.

You get SO much stuff. I personally get the Tampax Pearl Regular and Always Ultra Normal, and you get 8 of each. Next month I plan on getting the new natural cotton Veeda products that they just started stocking, so I can’t wait to see what they are like! I have tried both of the Pukka teas that come in the box and I can honestly say they are both delicious and are PERFECT for relaxing with. I also think the little silk bag is an amazing touch because I tend to end up with tampons and pads hanging around the bottom of my bag every month, so this will hopefully keep them a bit organised. And do I even need to talk about the chocolate? I’m pretty sure chocolate is a necessity during every woman’s period. (As I am a vegetarian, I haven’t tried the Krill Oil supplements so I might give them to someone else to try; but I do love that they are included as I know they really help some women with period problems.)

This box would definitely be a huge stress reliever for women who have particularly horrible periods. I am one of the lucky ones, and don’t tend to get bad cramps very often; I might get one bad period a year. But for women who dread their time of the month, I think MyLadyBug would be perfect. So if you know someone who suffers pretty badly, maybe consider getting them a month or two worth of subscriptions to make them feel a little better. I also think this would be great for young girls who just started their period, as it would take the embarrassment out of it (we’ve all been there).

Subscriptions are dispatched monthly 19-21st and & are paid for on the 31st/1st of each month after you receive your first box. I really hope you check them out because I truly think this is an amazing company that is well worth supporting. And I can honestly say that Maryrose who runs the company is one of the loveliest women I have ever had the pleasure of working with, and definitely deserves the support. Even if you just try them out for one month, I promise you won’t regret it!

The boxes are such a bargain at €10.99 per month (or less depending on what you order). And if that wasn’t good enough, I also have an amazing 15% off discount code for you. Just enter “BEXBLOG” at the checkout! Make sure to tell me what you think if you get one, I’d love to hear your opinions. Click here to get started!

*In the interest of full disclosure, I have been given a free box by MyLadyBug for review, but I have been paying for my own boxes for the past few months so I can promise you that has not swayed my opinion in any way.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Oh that’s disgusting you have to pay extra tax on tampons! I always maintain that feminine products should be FREE. If there was an equivalent consumer product that’s solely male oriented, you can BET that it would be FREE or subsidized.
    This monthly box is a good concept – are the pads / tampons good quality? (Are they a particular brand?)
    And I don’t know WHAT the scientific explanation is – but honestly, every time it’s a week before my period, I must have chocolate. I just need it or else my life is pointless. lol.

    1. Isn’t it ridiculous? I agree, it 100% would be. 👎 Yeah, they have a few different brands and they’re all top of the range – Tampax, always, lil-lets and Veeda. 🙂 I think it’s because our cortisol levels drop or something 😂 Me too – currently sitting here eating the chocolate i got in the box while sipping the tea from the box 😂
